Willowhayne Records is an organisation founded and run by John Balsdon and Mark Hartt-Palmer who met through musical events in and around Chichester, UK, both choral and orchestral.
John Balsdon’s life-long love of music started during his time as a chorister in Gloucester Cathedral, after which he went on to qualify as a music teacher. Later roles saw John in senior management positions in aviation, travel, local authorities and finally, back in the world of education. He is passionate about recording all kinds of music as part of our heritage and possesses many recordings dating back to 1954 in his archive.
Mark also started his musical life as a chorister, latterly in St John’s Cathedral Choir, Portsmouth. He studied violin, viola and piano at the Royal College of Music, since when he has given many performances as a soloist, recitalist, conductor and musical director. Solo performances have included the Canadian première of the Coleridge-Taylor Violin Concerto. He has always had a passion for recording live musical events, as well as in the ‘studio’. We record and release a small number of exceptional CDs each year – outstanding artists, programmes and instruments. We also distribute a growing number of independent labels worldwide.
